If you’re a fan of the hit show ‘The Office’, you’ll be familiar with the uninspiring boring corporate boxes of days gone by. Thankfully, office interior design has come a long way in recent decades.

1. Bahnhof bunkers down in Stockholm

Swedish internet provider Bahnhof’s ‘White Mountain’ office in Stockholm is absolutely spectacular. Designed by Albert France-Lanord (A)rchitects, the office is built into a former anti-atomic shelter under the granite rocks of Vita Berg Park. They stated:

“The starting point of the project was to consider the rock as a living organism.”

Optimising the space and creating light so it doesn’t feel so enclosed, this secure and private office space creates a great space to work for those who need peace and quiet.

2. It’s a dog’s life at Bark

BARK produces food and toys for dogs, so it seems only natural that their office space would be pet-friendly. Ideas-driven design firm nbbj created a fun and relaxing office environment to accommodate both dogs and people. From themed conference rooms, commemorative toy-lined walls and ‘amenity bars’ with water bowls, the office interior design provides options for playing, connecting and working.

3. LEGO’s office is more than just bricks

After years of planning, in 2022 LEGO opened its state-of-the-art headquarters in Billund, Denmark. C.F. Møller Architects have created a playful and collaborative work space.

Featuring a creative workshop, fitness studio, kitchen for communal cooking, a LEGO homestay for visiting employees and much more, there are plenty of places to be inspired, as well as places to relax and take some time out.

‘Many colleagues have contributed to shaping a workspace that reflects our values and instills a sense of fun not just for our employees in Billund, but for all our LEGO teams across the world who regularly visit. Our mission is to inspire children so it’s important we provide a vibrant, playful workplace that enables employees to deliver inspiring experiences for kids.’

4. Selgascano’s office amongst the trees

Spanish architects Jose Selgas and Lucia Cano from Selgascano have designed their space in the forest outside of Madrid, Spain. The north side of the tunnel-shaped office has large transparent walls and a sunken floor giving workers an eye-level view of nature, from sunlight to rain and falling leaves. Being a creative architectural business, this inspiring space reflects their image perfectly.

5. Google inspiration is everywhere

Google is known for their fun, creative offices, and they highly value mixing work with pleasure. With so many amazing offices to choose from, it’s hard to pick a favourite but Google’s Dublin office (EU HQ) certainly doesn’t disappoint. It’s full of graffiti art and murals depicting Irish folklore, or you can recharge at the wellness centre equipped with a pool and a gym.

6. Just the ticket at Ticketmaster HQ

Ticketmaster HQ in London has been “designed specifically for boosting creativity and encouraging socialising” with many communal areas such as dining areas, lounges and a picnic style seated area. They also have shelves full of books, board games, pin machines, a duke box, a fitness studio, a projector for showing movies and sport – and they even have a slide!

7. Etsy’s Brooklyn office comes to life

Designed by architecture and design office Gensler, Etsy’s Brooklyn office, New York City has recording studios, design shops, a yoga studio and more, as well as a spectacular terrace on the 9th floor. With a colourful design and plenty of greenery, it’s hard to believe you are in the middle of a city.

Using sustainable design strategies including a 3,500-gallon rainwater tank, low-flow and flush fixtures, high-efficiency light fixtures and daylight controls, and onsite and offsite solar, Etsy is committed to caring for the environment. The office space also uses salvaged and sustainable timber.

8. Pallotta TeamWorks values sustainable living

Events services company, Pallotta TeamWorks, had the challenge of converting a warehouse in the Atwater Village area of Los Angeles into suitable office space. With a limited budget, they needed to be creative and Clive Wilkinson & Associates were up for the challenge.

Seven tented villages were created inside the warehouse (one for each department) with beautiful white tent tops; these were anchored to the ground by shipping containers which doubled as executive offices. Not only did they save money but they reinforced their sustainability message.

From royalty-inspired meeting spaces to an English themed conference room complete with a replica phone box, their fun and quirky designs reflect the culture of their business.

Clive Wilkinson Architects gutted a loft in the New York garment district to create a unique and collaborative workspace for new generation internet advertising agency, The Barbarian Group. The whole office revolves around a never ending plywood table that makes its way around the room, creating plenty of space for storage and meeting areas.
